Retinoids - but Not all retinoids  are equal

A first generation Vit A which falls into  a group called retinoids. It is only available on prescription &  marketed as Retin A, Retrieve, Stieva A
I’m a big Retinoid ) fan, because of its many actions on the epidermis/demis.
Retinoids should not be confused with non prescription  retinols that require conversion to Retinoic acid to achieve the same result. Unfortunately during the conversion these retinols loose much of their potency!

Retinoid as a number of  actions on the epidermis. Retinoid modifies epithelial cellular growth, exfoliation and inhibits the first stage of acne -microcomedo ( white head ) formation
  •     Controls oil secretion and therefore a long term treatment for acne
  •     Enhances vascularity of the dermis
  •     Reduces pigment production
  •     Increases production of glycoamino-glycans. The natural skin moisturiser
What are the essential tips for correctly using Tretinoin in your skin care routine?
Tip #1: The action of Retinoid is enhanced by combination with the NU-Derm System

Tip #2:  Tretinoin goes on at night.
Tretinoin is light sensitive so apply it at night before retiring. Wash it off in the morning then apply your other skin care products.

Tip #3:  Some ingredients will interfere with Retinoid
Don’t mix glycolic acid, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid with Retinoid  cream. \

You can still use these ingredients but apply them in the morning after washing off the Retinod  you applied the night before.

Tip #4:  Skin has to be totally dry before you apply Retinoid.
Apply compatible products first, one right after the other, then wait 15 minutes or more before applying Retinoid. This lets the excess surface water evaporated from your skin, and that seems to matter for minimising  skin irritation. It means that if you are using products those products are applied right after washing. Wait 15 or more minutes, then apply the Retinoid. I

Tip #5:  Retinoid -treated skin must be sun protected every day.
Retinoid makes skin more sun sensitive. If you’re going to use it for all the good things you get from Retinoid treatment then you need to be committed to using broad spectrum sunscreen and a hat when you’re in the sun. I

Tip #6:  Work your way up to the highest Retinoid level your skin can tolerate.

Your skin has to be trained to tolerate Retinoid, and more is better meaning you get more benefit from higher strength levels of the medicine. I tell people it’s like a weight training program because you have to start with weights you can lift and slowly, over time, you’ll lift heavier weights as you gain fitness. It’s the same with Retinoid. You start with .025% twice a week and eventually work to 0.05% nightly.

Warning: Retinoic acid Should not be used in females considering pregnancy & during Pregnancy or Breast feeding.
